Sugga’s Eye Images

The Kenneth P. Green, Sr. Photographic Archive, run by Sugga’s Eye Images, a Green Family Foundation, is a site dedicated to the art of Kenneth P. Green Sr.

As the first African-American staff photographer for the Oakland Tribune, between 1968 and 1982 Kenneth P. Green Sr. captured some of the most dramatic and dynamic social changes occurring not only in Oakland and the Bay Area but in our time. His photographs reflect the best of both photojournalism and photography—a chronicle of the here and now, and a collection of personal portraits that illustrate the timeless, human side of the people involved.

Sugga’s Eye Images is opening the archive to the public to encourage those who may have lived through some of these moments and younger generations confronting the questions and problems of today to share their stories. Our hope is that in so doing, relationships will be forged amongst people and communities currently divided.
